MINA
"When tragedy triggers long-repressed memories, Mina Harker spars with the men hiding the truth about her ordeal with Dracula--and fights to uncover if the Count is truly back for his beloved."
I was raised in Mexico by a single mother in a household of women and always wanted to write something that honored their strength while also appealing to a broad audience. The result is MINA. Set up as a meta-sequel to DRACULA (both book and films), MINA is a female-driven story of courage and empowerment wrapped in a supernatural mystery that reinvents one of the most famous IPs.
It’s 1916 and Mina Harker lives secluded and unable to remember her affair with Dracula. Mina's husband, Jonathan, is away fighting in the war, while their friend, Dr. Jack Seward, keeps too-close an eye on her. But a personal tragedy triggers memories and confounding visions Mina cannot explain. She learns of the Count's existence through the work of Bram Stoker--that lost chapter of her life apparently now England's favorite fiction! And when people start turning up dead with bite marks on the neck, Mina is certain: Count Dracula cheated death and is back for her! Impeded at every turn by the men who've kept her in a stupor for 23 years, Mina teams up with Emmeline, a sympathetic young nurse assigned to her care, to track down the Count and reclaim her life story. Their journey through London takes them from a seance at Lord Godalming's, to Van Helsing's study, to Dr. Seward's secret lab under Carfax Abbey. As Mina peels back the layers of her past, she makes a series of shocking discoveries that ultimately upend her world. MINA is a second round selection of the ISA's FastTrack Fellowship.
