Ever wonder where ideas really come from? I set out to answer that question with
THE AVUNCULAR HOMUNCULUS, a raunchy fantasy-comedy about life's two greatest mysteries: Creativity and Love.
No one has it better than Fedric: Good food, fine wine, and adoring maidens--all perks of his position as acclaimed Court Poet of Middleburgh. Except Fedric's success is built upon a lie: He’s plagiarized every word he’s ever written! Sure, it would mean exile--maybe even death--if his fickle king ever found out...but, really, what are the odds, right?! Enter Rosaline: Brilliant, talented, and a tad awkward. Perhaps that's why Fedric's instantly smitten--until he learns Rosaline is Court Poet to the king’s bride, and she’s gunning for his job! See, the king challenges them to compose a wedding poem for his nuptials, winner take all. Panicking, Fedric tries to write an original poem--and sucks at it! His only real option? Cheating, of course. Fedric resorts to a forbidden magical creature called a homunculus he finds trapped in a jar. Fedric promises to free it--never mind he has no idea how--if it’ll help him acquire the greatest wedding poem ever. The homunculus agrees and transports Fedric to a dimension called the Land of Ideas, where all ideas in the world float around within arm's reach, ripe for the taking! Oh, but if only it were that simple... To Fedric’s horror, all he catches is crap! And the homunculus? It proves itself less a servile genie and more a devilish imp, rejoicing at Fedric’s every misstep! Worse, Fedric cannot stop thinking of (and bumping into) Rosaline. But, strangely, as his feelings for her grow, so do his creative abilities. Fedric just might snag that great idea after all! Now, torn between love and career--and with the homunculus threatening to destroy both once it discovers Fedric's deceit--our hapless poet races between worlds to try and win the king’s contest--and perhaps also Rosaline’s heart.
