EMIGRANT MEDIA is the homepage of Mexico City transplant Mario Rivas, an endlessly curious fella who marries a passion for storytelling and creativity with a love of art, science, and philosophy. .
Mario's passion for film brought him to Los Angeles, CA, where he received a B.A. in Film Production from USC's prestigious School of Cinematic Arts.
As a writer, Mario’s scripts traverse genres and subvert conventions. They've found success in the industry’s top contests, including the Nicholl Fellowship (twice), the Austin Film Festival, Shore Scripts, Filmmatics, WeScreenplay, Stage 32, and American Zoetrope to name a few; and his short plays have been produced in San Pedro, CA and Durango, CO, and have been adapted into an award-winning short film.
Mario has 20+ years of professional experience as producer and video editor, including 15 years in NBCUniversal’s linear and digital space; and working as an entertainment journalist who covered hundreds of film junkets, premieres and events--including the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
When not writing or drawing, you’ll find Mario playing tennis, rock climbing, and snow skiing, or perhaps attending a concert, movie, or play. Life's too short to just sit around!
